Removable Dentures

Missing teeth are a concern that goes beyond just appearance issues. They can affect the way you chew, bite, speak and can also alter the shape of your beautiful face.

At Papadakis & Gonzalez DDS, we understand the problems that missing teeth cause and provide state-of the-art solutions to help restore the beauty of your smile. One of these solutions comes in the form of removable dentures.

Removable dentures consist of replacement teeth with a gum-colored base made of plastic. Removable dentures are of two types:

  • Removable Partial Dentures: Partial dentures are for people who have lost some of their teeth. They consist of a metal framework to attach to your nearby natural teeth and may have precision attachments to allow for a more snug and better-looking fit in the mouth. Sometimes your dentist may use a crown to give you a better fit with removable partial dentures.
  • Removable Full Dentures: These consist of a full set of teeth in a dental arch and are used for people who have lost all or most of their teeth. Any remaining natural teeth in the mouth will have to be removed prior to the installation of removable full dentures.

You may take some time to start eating and talking normally with your dentures on or getting used to them being in your mouth, this is normal and should end once you get used to your dentures. However, if you feel pain or issues with the fit of your dentures, contact our clinic immediately. Once you become used to your dentures, you will be able to enjoy most of your favorite foods and will also be able to speak with ease. Your dentist would advise you to avoid very hard or sticky foods to prevent damage to your dentures.

Just like your natural teeth, your dentures will also need regular maintenance. Clean your dentures using a denture cleanser and a soft-bristled brush to remove plaque and food deposits. It is also important to keep your denture moist to prevent it from losing shape. Place it in a soaking solution or water when you are not wearing it.

With age, changes in your bone and ridge structure could cause your dentures to lose fit. When this happens, visit our clinic and we will help you with the adjustments needed. Poorly fitted dentures could cause infections and sores.

Also remember that you should avoid self-repair for your dentures at any cost as it may damage them permanently. If you need new dentures for your missing teeth or wish to replace or repair your existing dentures, call Papadakis & Gonzalez DDS in NYC at: (212) 689-7199.
